Moth no. 110. Wood Burning on Panel with Pigment.  Utilizing color now in some of my new work. this is a much larger scale wood burning then I normally produce. The work is 12" x 12" on a cradled panel.

I have been strongly inspired by Odilon Redon and his moths/butterflies. His work is very beautiful check it out if you have not seen his work.

Large Moth no. 1

Large Moth no. 1 wood burning on cedar 12" x 12".

This is a much larger wood burning then I normally endeavor to make. Its cradled with 2" x 2" fir stretchers that I cut myself. Fir is a harder wood then Cedar, it helps keep the larger piece of cedar from warping as it encounter's different temperatures and moisture.

Stag Beetle

Stag Beetle wood burning on cedar 7" x 7".

Stag Beetles english name is derived from the large distinct mandibles which somewhat resemble the antlers of a stag deer. Stag beetles are also apply named, due the fact many stag beetles fight for mating rights, in very much the same manner stag deer engage in combat using their antlers.
